“I’m not sure why they’re attacking me like this. I stand by my previous statement. “Don’t hurt the people who are around me,” she said at a press appearance in Palakkad, Kerala, on Saturday, before apparently collapsing and swooning.

Swapna Suresh, the primary suspect in the gold smuggling scandal that has rocked Kerala, broke down in tears while speaking to the media on Saturday. Suresh, who was visibly upset, begged, “Hurt me, please kill me so that the story will end.”

Her testimony came after the police filed a complaint against her lawyer, Krishna Raj, for allegedly injuring religious sensibilities with a Facebook post he published.

“I’m not sure why they’re attacking me like this. I stand by my previous statement. “Don’t hurt the people who are around me,” she said at a press appearance in Palakkad, Kerala, on Saturday, before apparently collapsing and swooning.

Based on a complaint by Left member and former minister K T Jaleel that Suresh had made defamatory remarks against him, police filed a case against him and senior politician P C George earlier this week.

Suresh told the reporters on Tuesday that Jaleel was one of the people implicated in the controversy. Suresh claimed she testified in court in Kochi, citing Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to explain Jaleel’s and others’ roles.

Suresh further said that Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan travelled to the UAE with a bag of cash. She also included Vijayan’s wife, Kamala, and their daughter, Veena, in the debate.
